This book was definitely an interesting read having grown up in South Florida and I think it was as accurate to an immigrants truth as it could be. Yes, there was action and suspense but I also feel that the author successfully hit some very serious notes with immigration within this novel. Galan and Gabriela’s story is so sad and was quite hard to read about. That despair to be able to get his sister and take her to safety and not being able to was well written and you truly feel for them and the terrible situation they’re in. I think that separation of families is what makes this so close to reality. I did enjoy the friendship between Pat and Galan, and how the author places Pat in an almost impossible conundrum having to choose between Galan and basically his job. Overall, this book was worth the read and some of these more sensitive topics were well handled by the author.
