I wasn't sure what to think of Mona Passage from the summary and whether I would like it, but it set a suspenseful, emotional pace from the get-go and I immediately felt attached to Galán, wanting him to be safe. I felt the first section about his journey to America from Cuba was more compelling than when the story switched to Coast Guard Lieutenant Pat, but I am still interested in learning more about Pat, too. Overall, this feels like a timely story that will address both the plight of migrants as well as the difficult job the coast guard and border patrol face.
