I found the prologue alone to be very captivating. Even though it was set in 1991, there are still migrants fleeing Cuba today to seek refuge in the United States. I felt badly for Galan and that he was separated from his sister and mother. I will be interested to see where the story takes us and see how it is linked to current day status in chapter 1. I’m sure the Coast Guard deals with scenarios like the one described frequently as people look to flee their home countries in search of a better life in the United States.
