I was really looking forward to reading Mister Tender's Girl, especially after reading this was inspired by a true story.
There is plenty of background and an interesting story but the pace slowed down a bit in the middle.
I thought Mister Tender's Girl was a good read but I wasn't overly enthusiastic to pick it back up to continue reading.
I think part of my problem was that I didn't particularly care about the protagonist, Alice. Of course, her childhood was interesting as was the ongoing story. I had more of a problem with her attitude, I guess there was something else I can't put my finger on it but it kept me from really being absorbed and eager to finish. I think I just kept expecting some big thing to happen and when the twist came about it wasn't all that surprising. The other problem I had was at the ending, not the whole ending, just one part. It really just made me not like Alice all the more.
I can definitely understand why a lot of people would like this book but it just wasn't a great book for me.
