This book was inspired by true events which was intriguing to me. It’s an interesting idea, how our fantastical horrors can inspire real horror. Alice’s father created a graphic novel about a character called Mister Tender and when she was 14 two classmates stabbed her almost to death as an offering to Mister Tender. Alice has spent her life running away for this incident but in this story the past knocks stubbornly at her door. The mystery was interesting, but the character of Alice was hard to connect to and didn’t make me invested in the story. Alice finds out that Mister Tender came from a story her father used to tell her and her brother as children and the lesson that story seemed to teach night after night was trust no one which was an interesting lesson for children, but one that may serve Alice well in the present. The story was interesting but it left a lot of questions at the end.
