Mister Tender's Girl feels both ripped from the headlines and ancient. It's not a title I'd normally pick up as I'm generally a genre reader. But there was something compelling, like a car crash you have to stare at, that made me want to go outside my comfort zone to try it. The sample only served as an appertif to make me eager for more!
