I have been very into historical fiction lately, and this one was an especially powerful story. The characters were so well written and developed that I genuinely felt connected to them and cared what happened to them. I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of writing from a debut author. As for the story itself, Missing Isaac was an emotional read that makes the reader look back on our history as Americans and remember why it is so important not to revert back to racial conflict and ignorance, which is especially important with all that's been going on in the country lately. The book shows a black man and a white man developing a powerful friendship in a day and age when segregation was prominent. Overall I would definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a powerful historical read.
