Missing Isaac by Valerie Fraser Luesse is not a book that I would normally pick up but was pleasantly surprised. The book starts out with a young Pete who loses his father in a tractor accident and his colored friend Isaac goes missing. Pete decides to try and find out what happened to his friend and meets a girl named Dovey, who will change his life forever. The author goes back and forth between the characters of her story that are connected to Pete and Dovey, as you slowly find out the mystery surrounding Isaac's disappearance. The author also gives you a true Southern feel while reading the book because she is from the South as well. With this debut novel, Luesse has captured the magic and danger of the 1960s South and presented it in this well-written tale.
