I felt this book was branded towards those who love Southern dramas that include elements of racism and prejudice. This book reminded me of a film where the dogs have to find their way home, when I was hoping for something a little more "To Kill a Mockingbird". I do not feel this book feels very deep. I do not usually enjoy a book that is told from the perspective of a young child, because the authors often create a smaller, lesser dialogue for the child. They are not written as wise and as intelligent, which I am not a fan of. This book was too long for the story that it needed to be. I understand the appeal of a book about friendship including racism and prejudice, but this was not the book I was hoping for.
