Get ready to sit up all night to finish this book because you are going to want to know what happens next. The author's description of a Southern rural area help the reader to enjoy the story with a variety of senses, smiling at the relationship between a young boy and his grandfather while seeming to smell the rich soil of the land. The various ages of the characters might remind one of the interplay between characters of all ages in To Kill A Mockingbird. The mix helps to make the characters believable but also adds to the building suspense as people with more or less life experience review details from their unique perspectives. Young people in 2018 seem more open to friendships across race, social, and gender lines, and the young boys in this debut novel prove this to be true.
