This book pulled me in from the start and just would not let go. I feel in love with the characters. Cried when Pete’s dad died and Issac tried so hard to help. He was there for Pete through so much. Taking him places. Doing things that his dad could never do again. Then out of the blue Issac up and disappears. Pete does not stop looking for him. He searches for 4 long years and learns so much. He grows in ways that you will love.
The south in the 60s was a bad time for black people and this book shows that some people had compassion, not hatred for them. Pete is such a loving and caring young man. He brings together a community and the people learn to have respect and love for each other. I shed lots of tears reading this book and hope there will be another/sequel also. I will read this one again and I do not do that.
