I was so happy to have received a copy of "Missing Isaac" as the First Look made me really want to read this story from start to finish.

Right away, Valerie Fraser Luesse has me with her writing style and description of the South. As a northern girl, I love reading stories that take place in the South. Her characters, their manner of speaking, and her descriptions of the places and weather all made me feel like I was right there.

At the heart of the book what you have though is a story of race and friendship. Pete isn't willing to just let Isaac's disappearance go and wants to find out what happened. It's a beautiful book that tore my heart out and I have already lent out my ARC for others to read as well. I will also still be purchasing my own copy since this is a book I want to own and have a spot on my shelf.

Side note - One of my most favorite things about the book was right in the beginning where Isaac is telling Pete about his love of books and how his Mother was able to provide him with so many. There are so many things to love about this book but this was something that stayed in my heart.
