A touching story of passion, loss, friendship, and finding one's true self.

This book depicts the characters' disparate social and economic backgrounds and how they become segregated in a small town.

When reading this novel, keep an open mind and an open heart.

Halfway through, you'll think you've worked out the plot, but you haven't.

It's one of the most compelling stories I've read in a long time. In many respects, as a nation, we have not progressed beyond the 1960s. The way we treat others, stereotypes, bigotry, and even "outsiders" in our own communities are all examples of how we treat others.

The author is extremely descriptive without being overbearing. She has immersed us in the life of a farm family in the 1960s, a period when the nation was hopeful for all the good things that John F. Kennedy's presidency would bring. She draws a strong distinction between Jacky Kennedy's life and her ornate clothes.
