This isn't my typical genre, so I think people that are fans of historical/Christian fiction will possibly enjoy it more, but even so, this was an atmospheric read with characters that you connected with instantly. The emotions and feelings created were believable, by turns tender and heartbreaking, full of love and tragedy, carrying readers through the story with a connection that makes you want to keep turning the pages. There are a lot of storylines that get explored that you wouldn't anticipate simply based on reading the summary. It spans a longer period of time than you might expect, the titular disappearance isn't always the central focus of the story, but it does come back through and get woven into things as the ending wraps up. We see characters grow up and mature, and learn about their community and the people living there.
