I immediately enjoyed the Southern conversation the author employed so realistically, and I was hooked from the beginning. The mystery of the situation starts on page one, and many of the main characters are introduced individually by name in subtitles over the next few pages, with other characters introduced within these sections. A novel and easy approach to keep the many people in the small postage-stamp-size town of Wicklow, Alabama separate and interesting!

As the novel moves along, you realize there are many supernatural things that have been going on at Anna Kate's grandmother's restaurant and property for decades and decades, maybe over a hundred years if the stories are true. And the blackbirds that meet there in her backyard on the limbs of the twin mulberry trees between midnight and one come, just long enough, to sing their songs. The blackbirds only made daytime appearances on only the rarest of occasions, like funerals.

With the introduction of each new main character, the story becomes more involved, and pieces are added to the overall puzzle of the mystery and what the new changes to the town of Wicklow, Alabama are going to bring to its citizenry and the old mysteries that have been buried through the years and the passage of time.

Would love to read this novel and will put it on my "wait list" for when it's published.
