Having read some meh books lately, I just really didn't want the warm fuzzies of Midnight at the Blackbird Café to end. In all fairness, there's definitely heartache in the book too, but Webber deftly weaves it into to create a story of love, forgiveness and new beginnings. The story is told by Anna Kate, who's returning to take over her grandmother's café after her mother fled town years ago after an accident killed the love of her life and Anna Kate's father. The other part of the story is told by Natalie, close in age to Anna Kate even though she's Anna Kate's aunt, who returns to her hometown after the death of her husband. Both Anna Kate and Natalie have to make piece with Natalie's parents, and Seelie and Doc have truths they need to realize too. And in the middle of all this is the Blackbird Café, the magic pie, and the blackbirds that come to sing and connect people with the ones they love that are no longer with them. By the end of this book there was a lot of pie, a lot of birders, and a lot of happy endings for people that didn't just need one, but were very much deserving of one too.
