Enchanted by MIDNIGHT AT THE BLACKBIRD CAFE
I thoroughly enjoyed MIDNIGHT AT THE BLACKBIRD CAFE. I wanted an excuse to return to Wicklow, Alabama and the cafe to find out what was happening with Anna Kate and Natalie and the mysterious blackbirds. I found myself going to bed a little early or even taking a "nap," so that I had an excuse to read Heather Webber's charming book.
The book was the perfect blend of ingredients: a large cup of family drama mixed with unresolved grief; a hen's egg of humor, a thimble of romance, a pinch of humor all mixed together with a special spoon of magical realism.
The fantasy elements of the book: the blackbirds, the secret pie ingredient, the mulberry trees, the transformation of Zee and the other healing women--and even the surprising revelation about Mr. Cat and the wounded Phoebe at the end worked well.
Serve yourself up large helpings of this book and enjoy!
