I saved this book to read while on vacation anticipating a page turning story and golly I was not disappointed! From the very beginning paragraph I knew these characters would come alive through the telling of the story. Anna Kate embarking on a journey to discover and know more about her father's side of the family leads to the introduction of the quirky, homey, loving charm of characters that could only inhabit a small town in the south. Unraveling the history and backstory that seems to be a mystery is told in a way as to keep the reader anticipating the next discovery and where it will lead. Granny Zee was quite the character and reading Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe will leave the reader sad to turn the last page.
