When it comes to magical realism, I've always found that it's a hit-or-miss concept. Magical realism is just really hard to do well in any novel, however, when reading this part of Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe, I had hope.

This story, so far, has a really nice set of characters that have a nice story to tell. I'm interested to see how the author incorporates such heavy topics such as death, heritage, and love.

I hope I can read this book in its entirety in the future.
