Members Only by Sameea Pandya is a clever, well written, and thought provoking novel. Raj, the main character, makes a racist remark in the beginning of the story and from there things only get worse. With his life spiraling out of control, Raj attempts to keep his cool, while also being as authentic as possible. Alternating between the past and present, we learn what Raj's life was like before and how his experiences have shaped him into the man he is today. Sameea explores the concepts of racism and belonging in such a way, that Raj's story definitely resonates with the climate of today. He highlights how with the help of social media, a student's complaint about a professor's teachings can escalate into something much more dangerous. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Members Only and would definitely recommend it.
