It took me a little time to gear up to read Members Only because of its topical nature. The New York Times Bestseller List is full of books considering racial justice, white fragility, etc., all due to the atmosphere in the U.S. since police officers in Minneapolis heartlessly killed George Floyd.
Once I took a crack at the title, however, I found myself lost in the world of the book, considering racism from the perspective of someone who faces it, yet at the same time has more privilege than most.
Words can't be taken back, and characters in Members Only realize this truth to its fullest by the time the reader reaches the final page.
I recommend Members Only to other readers, whether they find themselves looking for books to escape today's conversation or to embrace it.
