I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but I DNF this book. I was so excited to jump into it. Raj Bhatt is Indian-American and a member of an exclusive tennis club. During an interview for couples hoping to join the club, Raj uses a racial slur in reference to an African-American man, then his students accuse him of being racist, and then his world just spirals out of control from there. I was excited to read another perspective of what it would be like living in America and feeling like you don’t belong. However, the story was incredibly slow, and nothing really happens. I read about half the book and then just gave up. I think if this would have been a memoir or a true story, I would have been much more interested. When reading fiction, you can take a little more liberty and weave in substories, but this author didn’t choose that route. Hopefully this book will be perfect for someone else! Thank you to @bookishfirst for my copy!
