This story is very relevant in today's world and includes some pretty strong messages and ideas. I love how the author gives an introspective look into the idea of race and racism in the United States and how those two topics really influence and/or shape other ideas and beliefs.
This book, with its lead character as a person of color exploring and discovering what racism is and what it feels like to be classified by the color of your skin. The way this book is written is so intelligent and crafty. The idea of membership is explored in this book, not just within the setting of the tennis club, but to the American idea and/or culture in general. There is something much deeper in this book that goes along with racism and identity.
