Sameer Pandya’s Members Only is a multi-layered, entertaining, and thought-provoking story of one disastrous week in the life of Raj Bhatt. The opening scene reveals Raj’s inner monologue as he participates on a panel interviewing prospective new members at the exclusive tennis club he joined with his wife, who is a legacy member and their two children. From the outset, his self-talk and description of fellow-panelists and interviewees put me squarely on “Team Raj.” The difficulties he encountered, and the honesty with which he described the bold steps, sheepish steps, and downright missteps, and endeared him to me even further. I also enjoyed the added depth given to Raj’s character through descriptions of his experience as a young immigrant, and the impressions formed by the work he did on his dissertation. Lastly, the ending was perfect.

Four out of five stars for Sameer Pandya’s Members Only. Thank you to Bookish First for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
