"Members Only" launches us straight into an uncomfortable and tense situation, but the writing is so flawless that it doesn't feel awful for the reader. Yes, you will cringe as events unfold, but Pandya has the narrative firmly in hand throughout, so the reader doesn't stray from the matter at hand. Confronting racism in areas where it is still deeply rooted, and having a victim of discrimination be the one to do so, is very powerful. Even as you witness Raj making a mistake, you know that his intentions were good and his longing for acceptance, or at least some comrades in this regular struggle, is pure. I can't wait to see what kind of response this gets once it publishes. The cover is a stunning shade of blue, but I'm not sure it is properly conveying the magnitude of what this book is prepared to discuss.
