A story about a snarky bitter PI with a bit of a drinking problem who is summoned to solve a murder case in a magical school where her estranged twin sister works. Did I mention that Ivy Gamble the investigator has no magic while her sister is very powerful? The magicians' school — Osthorne Academy, is a very realistic high school but with magical Graffiti instead of regular one, and this reminded me a little of Grossman's The Magicians. However, although the book started with a bang, I guessed where the plot was going around 3/4 of the book due to a heavy layering of clues and very few suspects to choose from. What carried me through was the relationship between the two sisters Ivy and Tabitha and the question mark of how the relationship unfold in the end. So instead of an enthusiastic recommendation this came out a little lukewarm, but it is still a unique take on the magical noir genre with great world building and interesting characters.
