I was hoping I would like this because I love reading about academy settings, and it was pretty good! The magic system in here was cool, if a little vague. The characters were almost all unlikable, but it worked for this story. Ivy was especially perplexing as an MC because she was just all over the place, but I still managed to like solving the mystery with her.
I do feel like the book ended quite abruptly, and I would have liked another chapter or two to work things out. It definitely left things open for a possible sequel, although I think it is fine as a standalone.
The most bothersome aspect of this book was that I felt like most of the characters had little to no consequences for their actions. Characters don't have to be likable for me or always do the right thing, but I want things to be properly addressed.
