A book about magic. Sign me up! I enjoyed this story even though I found it slightly flawed. In the very beginning it made me think of Harry Potter as it takes place at a magic school, but the story shifted to more of an adult focus rather quickly. Ivy's relationship with her sister was complicated and their estrangement never quite clicked with me. I also felt the romance was forced and out of place as I did not feel the chemistry between the characters. I just wanted to get back to the mystery quickly and found myself skimming. I found Ivy's self pity irritating through out the book and felt it lacked the tension I usually find in murder mysteries and I had a tough time connecting to any of the characters. There was plenty of teenage angst and drama. The denouement however was satisfying.
