I was super excited when I read the synopsis of the book and saw it recommended by V. E. Schwab, but it did end up falling short of my expectations. I think that I expected a little more of the magic element rather than the mystery part of the book. I love being able to learn about different magic systems and I love of what we were able to see in this one but I didn't feel like I had a good grasp on it by the end of the book. I guess that could have been on purpose to keep in line with the main character's point of view as she did not have access to magic and therefore would not be able to understand it either. My favorite part of the book was the relationship between the two sisters. I loved reading their interactions and learning about their shared past. It felt by far the most genuine part of the book. It was a quick and enjoyable read but failed to knock my socks off.
