Made of Stars shoots from the pen of Jenna Voris and publishers Viking Press onto the page for young and old readers alike in this futuristic, space tale. It’s the characters who are really out of this world, in fact, all this action and adventure occur in space and on planets we, at this time, can't traverse and don’t know about. With two young Bonnie and Clyde characters created by Voris, after a big prison break, at the beginning, each page turns faster and faster as readers want to know what will be the fate of this duo. Because Ava and Shane (Bonnie & Clyde) are forever on the run from page one, leaving readers to continually ask themselves, “How are they going to get out of all the trouble they have made for themselves?” And, the action just keeps coming.

It doesn't look like there is any way out of trouble for the pair until Shane overhears a secret conversation. This knowledge includes a sad fate for the people of the duo’s planet, Cordova, where they both grew up and the place where all their people are. For all Shane did in his past and continues to do now, readers see that the boy is more like a Robin Hood character, as many of the capers he pulls, along now, with Ava, only end up supporting the families of the pair, and sometimes, others of their planet, because work at home for good pay is useless. Even with all the theft and damage the pair do, they can barely support anyone, as they are continually on the run and away from those they care for. But now, with General Noth and her cadets after him, Shane and Ava must decide how to save their planet, parents, people, all while not getting caught for their prison break and now, knowing Noth’s big secret plan for Cordova.

On the backs of Shane and Ava is a new valedictorian cadet patrolling the galaxy, Cyrus, an Opian soldier. And, like all new graduates, Cyrus is ready and willing to risk all in the line of duty. Despite the fact the cadets don't come in pairs, it may make the difference, because in the end when all else fails, Cyrus tries to help when he too, suspects something is going to happen to the planet of Cordova. Killing innocent people is not something Cyrus signed up for, but to save them, he might have to turn his back on his fellow cadets and commanders. That is, depending on how far up the chain of command the conspiracy to destroy Cordova goes.

Things heat up even further when Shane and Ava are wanted for killing an officer. Their faces get plastered all over the galaxy. While Ava always wanted to make headlines, Shane always knowing she would, he hates to see her ensconced with him in this way. The last thing he ever wanted was to put Ava in danger. While the two have never been romantic, the heat turns up between the pair as the pages turn. And, as they do more and more to save the other, readers can’t doubt that there is a strong love between the two, even if they have yet to admit it, even to themselves.

With Shane tired, the pair having been on the run since breaking him out of prison, Ava comes up with a plan. But, for it to work she must keep part of it a secret, a person who has offered to lend them aid. And, while Shane does not know about this mystery help, Cyrus, the Opian soldier, must betray the new allegiance he has pledged to give it. Can he do this? And, will Cyrus place trust in others, fellow cadets, now soldiers, he thinks friends, only to be betrayed by them?

Made of Stars is an exciting adventure in space, with veiled romance you see growing, friendships and trust found in the nature of man, and a book that you will love to enjoy! While the story is “out of this world”, it’s not as far-fetched as one would believe, with all the bad found on Earth, why wouldn’t there be others, one day, who destroy planets, out of greed or even, just to demolish something, no real reason at all?

The saddest thing however, about the whole story is that after prison, after all the atrocities and horrors he saw there, Shane may be too tortured to ever enjoy life and the love he shares with Ava. Readers worry about his survival and what may happen to him (as I did), because of this loss of “spirit”, if it is lost and dead forever, and that, in the end, Shane may not make it, by choice, even, one of the possibilities. Will there be a happy ending? Will Made of Stars be the unmaking for one, a few, or all?

Happy Reading!
