For anyone looking for a futuristic crime story, the cover design of MADE OF STARS may not be as enticing as actually reading the first page. Pools of blood, a murderer who misses having a weapon in his hand, and a freezing cold solitary cell… in a moon prison. Droids, capable of sneering smiles, roam the halls. Murderer Shane has a female counterpart – Ava- and she is being pushed down the moon prison hallway three months after Shane. But despite closed circuit surveillance cameras, too-thin clothing, and weeks of poor nourishment, Shane and Ava are able to hug each other, allowing Ava a chance to slip a gun to Shane. With squadrons of fighter spaceships, weapons disguised as planets, and plans to rob government buildings for loads of cash, it is easy to see why the author started this book with a comparison quotation to ‘BONNIE AND CLYDE. My personal interest level was closer to a 3.5, but the fast pace for the intended audience of young YA definitely deserves a four star rating.
