By now we all know the story of Jack and Rose but have you heard of Valour and Virtue?

Luck of the Titanic takes a well know story and flips it. This tells the story of stowaway Valoura Luck who dreams of going to America to preform in the circus. She just needs the help of her twin brother Jamie aka Virtue who is traveling on the Titanic with a few other 'brothers'. One thing to note about these characters is that they are Chinese and because of America's Chinese Exclusion Act they are not welcome. But Val has 'Luck' on her side after all, doesn't she?

What I loved most about this story, besides the cover (so stunning!) was the bond between siblings that is a main theme of this tragic story. The Titanic gives a great setting to this story and the characters are fleshed out and Valoura a perfect YA heroine. The author's note describes that out of the real survivors on Titanic 6 out of the original 8 survived. Because of the Exclusion Act they were sent back to China rightaway. They were made to feel ashamed and most never talked about what happened. This story pays homage to them and is a fantastic read. It will fill you with hope and break your heart.
