As a historical nerd who had a total Titanic phase as a kid, I loved the fact that this story shed light on the lesser known/ unknown POC stories in significant historical moments. It proves that historical events tend to hide some of their lesser known truths because truly, nobody really has any other rep than white in Titanic stories/ interpretations. This is a powerful example to do better with research.
Now I was disappointed that the actual sinking only took place within the final 15%. I WANTED MORE. I just felt as if I was led astray in the context of this piece because they have marketed it as a sinking Titanic story when in fact the sinking took up such little space. I understand that the author doesn't want this book to be necessarily about the sinking because she's developing her characters, but my expectations just didn't match up.
