Luck of the Titanic by Stacy Lee is the story of Valora Luck, a half Chinese teenager who sneaks aboard the Titanic to reunite with her twin brother Jamie, so that they can make it to New York for a better life together.
I absolutely love historical fiction, especially from marginalized perspectives, so I knew that I needed to read this one. Valora was absolutely delightful, and it was so much fun to see the luxury and grandeur of the first class passengers, which stood in stark contrast to the racism and scarcity of the below deck. Considering the premise of this book (spoiler alert: the Titanic sinks!) I knew there would be some deaths, but the individuals who died absolutely shocked me. I kept flipping back and forth on the last few pages, convinced there was more, only to find that was indeed the end. All that to say, I loved this book and highly recommend.
