Val is desperate to be reunited with her twin brother Jamie and when her employer passes away she jumps at the opportunity to give her notice; Effectively ending her years of servitude and abuse with the Sloane family. Prior to her death Mrs. Sloane had purchased tickets for the Titanic for herself and her maidservant, Valora. Knowing that her brother is going to be traveling aboard this magnificent ship, Val is determined that she, too, will be aboard. Unfortunately, even with tickets in hand Val is turned away when she attempts to board with the other First Class passengers. Unbeknownst to Val, she will not be welcomed in America simply because she is Chinese. Yet this doesn't deter her for even a moment. She manages to get aboard ship and tracks down her brother.
