The first six chapters of this book are just incredible! We meet Val, a half British, half Chinese young woman, grieving the loss of her father while trying to get to her brother. She doesn’t cleanly fit into either of the worlds she is in, which is painfully clear when she tries to board the Titanic. This representation of Asian minorities in this book makes me happy and I can’t wait to see if Val is reunited with her brother, Jamie!
