Young Valora has mixed racial heritage with her British mother and her Chinese father, but just as she is about to board the Titanic, she learns about the Chinese Exclusion Act. The agent in charge of checking tickets and proper documentation does not believe the quickly invented tale of her mistress waiting for Valora to unpack her clothes and ready the room, and Valora is denied boarding. However, the acrobatic training that Valora and her twin brother Jamie used to supplement their family's income comes in very handy. She sneaks on board and finds an unexpected accomplice in another young woman. This seems to be a Middle Grade novel, and it will probably be an interesting story for that general age group since the fate of the Titanic is so well known.
