Starting at the beginning, you could tell the character started off young, whereas, he refused to get glasses because of how he thought he looked. Will was an interesting character from the start, while his desire to avoid getting glasses was understandable, I really enjoyed the way he was described and the moments leading up to him meeting the mystery girl, the girl he wouldn't see again until much later. There's a mystery surrounding him and made me want to keep reading, the writing style was very descriptive and right from the beginning, I wanted to know more about Will and the mystery girl. I also really liked their first "meeting" with Will seeing this sort of quirky side of her, such as her throwing tomatoes and then being drawn to her voice. But then it quickly goes back to his world and the reason why he is there in the first place, which brings back the mystery element.
Fast forward 16 years and you see the perspective of the mystery girl named Nora. Seeing the description and perspective of Will from Nora's point of view 16 years later was a good touch and a contrast to how we saw Nora 16 years earlier from Will's point of view, except then, they didn't directly meet and now they are. It was a really good excerpt, and had me drawn from the beginning. The writing style was clear and descriptive and I am really interested to see the direction the writer goes in with this book and how it all plays out between Will and Nora.
