I highly suggest the audio format, as the narrator does an amazing job voicing all the various characters (Jack, Hannah, Christopher, Alice, Celia, Michele, and Patrick). It took a couple chapters to understand the format and storyline, then I was instantly hooked. Fleshed out characters, all who have flaws and secrets. Diverse in characters. I appreciated how even the adults of the children, the main characters, had fleshed out backstories that really had an impact on their parenting styles and overall character arch.

I do recommend looking up trigger warnings for this book, it is not particularly graphic.

The author does an incredible job with the development of each character. Especially in their connections to each other and the real world. The book will takes many turns and is unpredictable, a refreshing novel for the mystery genre. If the cover doesn’t get you, get to chapter three and I promise you will want to finish it. You really feel immersed into the little town of Emerson.
