Locust Lane is a contemporary mystery novel about a wealthy group of acquaintances in Massachusetts and the murder of a young woman.
Locust Lane opens with a local wealth manager (Patrick) hitting a dog with his car when he’s out driving drunk in a quiet neighborhood near his home. He will find out later that the dog was the only witness to a young woman’s death.
The remaining POV’s are of the victim’s mother and the adults associated with the three teenagers who were partying with the victim (Eden) the night she died. Police immediately zero in on Christopher, the son of a local chef when his crush on Eden and the scratches on his neck raise suspicion. But the readers know that spoiled rich boy Jack might not be blameless in her death despite his alibi. The reader will flip through various adult and parent POV’s in the days following her death as they inch toward the truth of what happened that night and who is really to blame.
Locust Lane is a slow burn mystery that is dramatic and keeps the reader’s attention without a lot of twists and thrills. It is ultimately a story of secrets, parental love and privilege.
