If I had to choose a single word to describe this book: enchanting. The fairy tale atmosphere is there, and if that's what you're looking for, you'll be very pleased with this book. It starts pretty quickly and you get into the story easily, in my experience at least. And usually I struggle getting into a book at first.
The writing is simple, though not to my taste. First person narration is not my preference, maybe that's why. Especially when there is a lot of "—". I feel like it's interruptting the natural flow of the writing.
From what I've gathered this a "The Goose Girl" retelling, and I'm not familiar to the original fairy tale so I wouldn't know how it compares. It definitely feels like a fairy tale.
In my opinion, a morally complex main character is always worth a try. I appreciate these type of characters more, as they're usually more nuanced and unique.
