Little Thieves follows protagonist Vanja as the life she was so close to building for herself unravels rapidly before her very eyes. With Fortune and Death as her godmothers, Vanja is placed in a position where she must never ask for their assistance or be forced to spend the rest of her days as a servant to one and only one of her surrogate mothers. She is a successful thief using an enchanted necklace to appear to the world as a princess. Her plans go awry when she's cursed by a forest spirit.

The story just reels you in from the start. It's captivating and completely captures that fairy tale aesthetic. Vanja is cunning and sarcastic, and she makes for an excellent protagonist. The writing translates as sinister and eerie just like a true fairy tale. The illustrations between passages are fantastic and creepy as well. All in all, this book was everything I hoped it would be when I picked it up.
