Fairytale retellings are some of my personal favorite types of books. I love seeing how a classic can be reworked in so many different ways and Margaret Owen did an amazing job with Little Thieves.

This fresh spin on Goose Girl follows Vanja, a girl who was raised by Death & Fortune, who was a servant to the Princess Giselle ... until she decided to steal Giselle's life for her own as a price to her mother figure for raising her.

What makes this book so fascinating is that while Vanja is our protagonist and hero of the story her actions can definitely be considered morally grey, and that always makes for complex characterization. Alongside that, the world building was excellent and the supporting cast of characters fleshed out the tale.

The whole cast of characters, settings, and our heroine Vanja make for a delightful read that readers of the found family trope will adore!
