Utterly captivating start, unsure about narrative tone as it goes on

I loved the way this book started out. It's dark and exciting and incredibly suspenseful. I'm not entirely excited about the note of narration as the novel follows on, it's a bit too casual and smug. I'm curious to see how it progresses though, I expect it will be a fun read once I get past the overly informal tone.
