I was a huge fan of The Merciful Crow series, so I went into this with pretty high expectations. Surprise! This first look met the bar and exceeded it. Now I've got to get a copy of this book as soon as humanly possible.

The first paragraph had me intrigued and unable to stop reading. A morally gray character is like catnip, and just when I think I can't get enough, I'm presented with this gift - a book FULL of them. I love how the MC's mind works - she's tough, smart, and clearly on a well-planned out mission. I love how it feels like I'm shadowing the character as she goes about her mission, and everything is slowly revealed.

There's a feeling of waiting for something to happen, firstly because the MC tells us something big is about to go down, but more so because I just know that everything is too planned out to go this smoothly. And that idea was borne out in the very last paragraph of the excerpt. Which obviously leaves me with no choice but to pine for this book until I can get my hands on it.
