I wasn't sure about this book from the start since fantasy really isn't my thing. The idea of the story was really cool, and I read the first 100 pages or so. I liked the descriptions and the suspense level was fantastic, but the characters made me want to put this down. The main character wasn't at all likeable and it was hard to continue to read her self-deprecation. The aforementioned suspense kind of killed it in a way too. In a book like this, something should happen in the first 50 pages. But nothing did. I was really bored. While I appreciated the quotes and little stories sprinkled throughout, they seemed like missed opportunities for the chapters to make a stronger connection. Overall, I think this was a miss.
