There are not enough modern re-telling of this piece of ancient folklore. Changelings have always been interesting creatures to read about but rarely have they lived up to their full potential. That is until now.
Little Darlings not only uses the supernatural to wonderful effect in this book, but the metaphor to motherhood and even postpartum depression is hard to miss. For me, while reading this book all I could think about (grimly) were all those cases of women killing their children throughout American history. Maybe they too thought their children were not theirs or worse, were replaced.
Neil Gaiman like sure, but the uniquely female voice of the author adds a different perspective to this fairytale.
