Adult Fairy Tale?
This book was just okay to me. It wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read and it certainly wasn’t the worst. I think I was expecting a lot more because of the creepy and captivating synopsis and the beautiful cover on the book. However, as I read, I was just interested enough to keep picking it up. Nothing ever grabbed me and yelled at me that I couldn’t stop reading until the very end.
I think what kept me going with this book was my general curiosity about the river lady. Is she real? Is Lauren having episodes of postpartum depression with hallucinations? Also, I was interested about the husband’s involvement and was truly convinced that he had something to do with it. I guess the dark fantasy and fairy tales aspect of it was different from other thrillers, but it wasn’t executed in a way that blew my socks off.
There wasn’t anything really terrible about this book, so I hope I’m not making it sound like the worst book I’ve ever read. There were things I liked and there were things I didn’t, so for me this goes under the category of good books I’ve read.
