This was a such a great book! It was essentially telling 2 stories at once. One story happened when the main character (Cohen) was a child while the second story was happening in the present time. Cohen's father was in the hospital on life support which stirred many emotions in him and caused him to remember and, in a way, relive some of the traumas of his past. There are many twists and turns as the story develops and I have to be careful not to give away any spoilers. Its the story of a family that gets on the wrong path and then has a hard time recovering. Its also the story of the power of childhood friendships and the effect they have on us even years later. The style of writing is extremely engaging. The characters are well developed and I was really invested in what happened to them. The chapters are all very short so I found myself saying," well....just one more chapter" often! My only complaint is that the ending did leave some questions unanswered and open for interpretation which is usually do not like! Despite that, it was a good read.
