The novel opens mysteriously with Cohen Marah finding his father lying in a pool of his own blood. Cohen's mind suddenly fluctuates between memories of his childhood and the present moment in which he contemplates what to do. The reader is given glimpses into Cohen's life and the unresolved tension between him and his father. My first impression is that this is a beautifully written and somewhat mysterious novel that is both character an plot driven.
